Edinburgh

This is the second time I will be writing this post - it didnt save properly the first time. Apologies for the lateness of the post, it is hard to log in on the Library's Internet.

Well, for those who aren't aware, Troy and I are in Edinburgh. We have been here for about 2 weeks now, and apart from the weather - we are having a great time! Edinburgh is a lovely city. It is split into two parts - Old Town and New Town (New Town being just older than colonised USA). We are staying in Old Town. The main attraction of Old Town in Edinburgh castle. This medievil castle sits at the top of the Royal mile, casting it's shadow down over the city. Our backpackers is situated at the bottom of the hill where the castle sits - so we have a fantastic view. Out of our window we have an even better view of the Graveyard where Greyfriars Bobby sat and is now buried.

Yesterday we left Edinburgh on a day trip up to Inverness. This city sits on a fault line and is subject to small earthquakes (the earthquakes are pulling to top of Scotland away from the bottom at a fingernails length each year). Inverness is also the gateway to the land of that mythical creature - THE LOCH NESS MONSTER!!!!! So, in our best efforts to find ol' Nessie, we hoped aboard a boat and set sail out into the dark, dark Loch. The boat took us to Urquhart Castle. The castle was the highlight of the trip. We took a lot of photos (but none of ol' nessie).

It's our last day in London today, as tomorrow we are catching the train up to Edinburgh. We spent a lot of our time in London attending the cities famous gallery's and museums. The highlight for mine was the Tate Modern, but the National Gallery was pretty damn mind blowing. The weather this week has been nice, so we've spent a few afternoons lazing in Hyde and Regents Parks.

We also had the pleasure of a day trip to oxford. We spent the day walking the streets and gazing at beautiful buildings, which the whole town was made up of. The college buildings surrounding the town were particularly breathtaking. Across the road from Christchurch college, Lewis Carroll's alma mater, was Alice's Shop. Which was housed in a store that was supposedly featured in through the looking glass. As you could imagine, the town is steeped in history, it boggles the mind to think of the many greats who are former students of oxford.

'Til next time,

- T

First Few Days

Well we made it safe and sound to London after 3 warm nights in Bangkok. As of today its been a week since we left Australia and we are getting close to recovering 100% from the jet lag (except for a few annoying sniffles and sore throats).

We are crashing on the bedroom floor of my sister Naomi and her roommate Fiona, who are the most gracious of hosts. We have managed to get out and do a decent amount of Sight seeing over the past few days - the highlights include:

1 March - Oxford circus, Leisteir & Trafalgar squares, and Buckingham Palace (sort of) - we also saw Nick Klien from TV's the Bill for anyone interested.

2 March - Started our day at Westminster and Big Ben (parliament), and walked along the bank of the Thames taking in the atmosphere and ending up at the world famous Tate modern gallery, then we finished off the night with seeing Aussie/Irish comic Jimeion in Soho with the gang.

3 March - A long sleep in, followed by a trip to covenent garden (where i am presently)...

Photos coming soon...
